I have to tell you that one of my favourites of all time is Van Halen, the hard rock band. They started in the early 70s and were great with Eddie van Halen, Alex van Halen, David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony. Van Halen was influential and he is the reason why I started loving the sentries and eighties so much. I drew inspiration from Eddie van Halen and he has been my reason to play guitar. Nobody in this world can play like Eddie and if you have to have a top ten guitarist of all time, he certainly will be on top.
If you look at another favourite of mine I am sure you will agree that The Police, with Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers were an excellent band. I particularly love Sting who became a solo artist and two of the greatest albums produced by the Police certainly include Synchronicity and Ghosts. When I saw them live at Cow Palace I got chills when they performed Every Breath You Take.
One of the 80s best ever is Motley Crue with Nikki Sixx, Vince Neal, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee. Shout at the Devil, Too Fast for Love are some of my top favourites. I know that they are full of women, drugs and booze not to mention load and loads of tattoos, but they take my prize as top band of the era.
The incredibly gifted Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits is another inspirational guitarist from whom I take my cue. Then he is also music industry’s best songwriters too. Some of the best albums include Brothers in Arms, Love Over Gold, Making Movies and I gained personal freedom with Love Over Gold.
